Topic: State Standards and Developmentally Appropriate Practice at Calvary Chapel Christian
Preschool in Las Vegas

Dear Parents and Friends,

With the emergence of Common Core Standards for Preschool Education, the Preschool group
at Calvary Chapel Christian Preschool had a dilemma to resolve. Nevada created Nevada Ready,
to define the components of high-quality pre-k programs and attached the availability of
prospective grant funds to the program. As proponents of developmentally appropriate, play-
based learning for preschoolers, we needed to weave in Nevada’s standards in a manner that
we believe is appropriate for our 3, 4, and pre-kindergarten 5-year old children.

Rest assured, we have developed a curriculum and daily activities plan that maintains our
desire for a developmentally appropriate Preschool program for our children while still
integrating Nevada’s Pre-K Content Standards.

At Calvary Chapel Christian Preschool, your child will be intrigued by our tabletop sensory
experiences, actively engaged in singing, rhyming, listening, music and movement during
morning circle, and will have opportunities each day for creative expression, outdoor play,
language development, and social-emotional learning. Our science curriculum starts with the
Nature of Science in the fall which is all about the outdoor world around us. We’ll be going on
nature walks and bringing our “treasures” inside for our nature table. Religious studies focus on
establishing a positive connection with God through songs, stories, games, and crafts. Children
also have “stations” around the room to engage in art, reading, science, building, homelife, and

The ROAR Is Back!

Hello Calvary Family,

Our Journalism Club is in full swing, and they have worked hard to bring you the first issue of this year’s school newspaper, The Roar. Today, we are passing out paper copies to the students; but if for whatever reason you are not able to get you hands on a hard copy, here is our cutting-edge prototype of The Roar Online. Please take some time to read through the articles and encourage our young journalists-in-the-making!

God Bless and Go Lions!

Pray For Las Vegas

Hey Family,
Many of you have been calling our church and asking about how you can help with the tragedy that we’ve experienced. The most important thing we can do right now is pray. We also have several ways you can get involved:
  • We will be having a candlelight prayer and worship gathering tonight at 7:00pm in our chapel. Please join us and bring your friends and family to pray for all those affected including our first responders.
  • Beginning now throughout the week, we will have pastors available for prayer and counseling from 8:30am-7:00pm daily. Please come down and check-in at the front desk if you’d like prayer and/or counseling.
  • This Tuesday, October 3rd, we will be having prayer vigils at 3 major hospitals: UMC, Valley and Sunrise beginning at 6:30pm. Please join us at one of the hospitals if you can to lift up the wounded and their families.
  • This Wednesday, October 4th, we will be having a special service at 7:00pm in our chapel. Please join us for prayer, worship and I will be giving a special message.
  • If you would like to get involved by providing resources for our local first responders as well as families affected by the tragedy, please visit
Please continue to pray for our city that this would bring them to their knees before our God of Hope.
In Christ,
Derek Neider

Elementary Gets Elmos

More Elmo document cameras have arrived in our Elementary School this week! Teachers and students alike are excited about these new learning tools. Document cameras are the overhead projectors of the future and allow teachers to work more interactively with their students. Our teachers now have a greater capacity to communicate visually with their students, and we here at CCCS are looking forward to seeing all the innovative ways our teachers utilize them.

Café Zupas School Night

Join us for dinner on Tuesday, September 27, at Café Zupas on S. Rainbow! If you come in between 5-9pm that evening, up to 25% of your entire order will be donated to CCCS. But don’t forget! You need a copy of the flyer below so they know who you are there to support.
